CHAIR HOW-TO: Meta-Reviewer Add/Assign/Invite Reviewer
OVERVIEW
This document shows how to configure the settings for a Meta-Reviewer to have permissions to add a Reviewer, assign a Reviewer, and/or invite a Reviewer.
Important
REVIEWERS THAT WERE ADDED BY META-REVIEWERS CANNOT BE USED BY OTHER META-REVIEWERS.
Only Reviewers added by the Chairs can be used by Meta-Reviewers.
META-REVIEWER ADDS REVIEWER
This allows the Meta-Reviewer to add a user or a non-user to the conference.
Note
No automatic email will be sent to the Reviewer.
Meta-Review Settings
- Go to ‘Settings’ tab, click ‘Features>Meta-Review.’
Select: ‘Show reviewer identity to meta-reviewer’
- Then select: 'Allow meta-reviewer to assign submission to reviewer' and
'Allow meta-reviewer to add reviewer'.
- Then click ‘Save changes.’

The Meta-Reviewer clicks ‘Actions>Add Reviewer.’
META-REVIEWER ASSIGNS REVIEWER
The Meta-Reviewer will be allowed to assign a Reviewer to an individual paper.
Note
No automatic email will be sent to the Reviewer.
Meta-Review Settings
- Go to ‘Settings’ tab, click ‘Features>Meta-Review.’
Select: ‘Show reviewer identity to meta-reviewer’
- Then select: ‘Allow meta-reviewer to assign submission to reviewer,’
- Then click ‘Save changes.’

With the above settings saved, the Meta-Reviewer finds the Paper the Reviewer is to be assigned, clicks ‘More>Edit Assignments.’
META-REVIEWER INVITES REVIEWER
The Meta-Reviewer will be allowed to invite a non-Reviewer to an individual paper. The Reviewer to be invited can be a conference user but does not have the role of Reviewer.
ERROR INVITING REVIEWER TO A PAPER
If the Meta-Reviewer gets an error inviting a user to review a specific paper,
the error will say what the issue is.
'The user can't be invited as reviewer for paper xx as the user is already a regular reviewer. You can assign paper directly to the reviewer'.
This means the Meta-Reviewer is trying to invite a user that is already a Reviewer in the conference.
The Meta-Reviewer can only invite a user if the person is not in the conference, or the person IS NOT a Reviewer in the conference.
RESOLUTION: What is needed is the paper needs to be ASSIGNED to the Reviewer; NOT INVITED.
If the Chair gave the Meta-Reviewer permission to assign papers, then the Meta-Reviewer can assign the paper.
If the Meta-Reviewer cannot assign but only invite, then the Meta-Reviewer needs to contact the Chairs.

- Then click ‘Save changes.’

With the above settings saved, the Meta-Reviewer finds the Paper the Reviewer is to be invited, clicks ‘More>Invite Reviewer.’
